About Us
The Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation seeks to connect people and place in the spirit of Lewis and Clark. As the popular learned society, the Foundation seeks to both promote scholarship on Lewis and Clark issues and preserve the Lewis and Clark trail. The Foundation exists as a 501(c)3 membership non-profit corporation. With a national scope, the Foundation has a presence in all 50 states as well as many countries throughout the world.
Throughout its history the foundation has been at the forefront of protection and extension of the Lewis and Clark legacy. The foundation was formed in the wake of the Congressional designation of the Lewis and Clark trail. Because of this, it has always worked closely with the agencies involved in administration of the Trail including the National Parks Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the National Forest Service. In addition it has fostered partnerships with non-governmental groups such as the Ft. Mandan Foundation and the Discovery Expedition of St. Charles. The lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation was instrumental in the national Lewis and Clark Bicentennial and contiunes to be a resource to all people who are interested in the Lewis and Clark legacy.
